about the artist
Parul is an Indian-born contemporary artist based in Spain, whose practice explores the emotional and symbolic language of womanhood through large scale figurative painting.
Her journey into art began as a deeply personal one, an intuitive response to a period of introspection that gradually evolved into a committed practice. Four years ago, she relocated from India to Spain with her family, a transition that marked both a personal and creative turning point. Since then, her work has developed into a distinct visual language, balancing sensitivity with strength.
Parul further refined her technical foundation through an intensive period of study at the Barcelona Academy of Art, where she explored classical realism. While this training informs her understanding of form, her work ultimately moves beyond it, embracing expressive mark-making, layered surfaces, and a more intuitive approach to storytelling.
Drawing from her upbringing in a large joint family in India where she was surrounded by her mother, sisters and aunts, her paintings reflect the complexities of women’s inner worlds, memory, intimacy, inheritance, and emotional resilience. Her figures are not portraits in the traditional sense, but vessels, holding presence, absence, and the intangible weight of lived experience.
Working with acrylic, oil stick, and colored pencil, Parul creates richly textured surfaces where bold color meets softness. Each piece exists as both a visual and emotional landscape, inviting the viewer into a space that is at once personal and universal.
Her work has been collected internationally and continues to evolve as part of an ongoing exploration of identity, memory, and the act of holding.
